TASK DEFINING:
The clients have moved into a new building with a large terrace (approximately
There is a French door from the living room to the terrace. The clients put two trees with round treetops (purchased at Bauhaus in autumn) on the terrace. Unfortunately the trees did not survive Czech frosts. Those trees had to be replaced.
BUDGET:
It was agreed with the clients that the landscaping terrace budget should not exceed the originally planned amount. The price includes not only a green wall ... it also includes creating a green island which, while looking out of the living room, makes an impression of a garden view.
SOLUTION:
The first no-obligation meeting was held in March 2011. Within half an hour everything was clear - the solution with the outdoor blinds would have closed the terrace and would have made it into a kind of a prison yard. A green wall consisting of creepers which are undemanding and weather-proof would be a better choice. Plants will be planted into self-irrigation window boxes in the terrace frame colour and will be attached to wires in transparent covering.
The client expressed her wish to have a rose garden – and so weather-proof climbing Westerland roses in orange were planted in the green wall. Scented lavender, thyme and two pendent plants were finally added into the composition.
A Syringa tree replaced the two dead trees. Besides providing a beautiful view of blossoming treetops a fine fragrance can be smelled in the living room all May and June.
In the second period of the terrace greening three self-irrigation window boxes will be added opposite the living room main terrace entrance. Amelanchier will be planted in the biggest window box, and carefully chosen creepers will be in the two smaller window boxes.
SEQUENCE OF WORK:
The clients wished to dwell on the terrace as soon as possible, so the green wall installation started on the second April week and took about 8 hours.
During the first May week the plants came through unpleasant weather changes (
The enclosed photos were taken during the green wall installation and during the second May week. More photos will be added in 2011 - as the wall will be overgrowing progressively.
CUSTOMER REFERENCES:
”Mr Šubrt is a walking inspiromat. He can understand his clients very well and can empathise with their spatial perception. He has a perfect sense of composition and a pleasant dose of sense of humour. ‘That´s not possible‘ – is not in his vocabulary. I am not a gardener and never will be one, but my lovely lilliputian garden is the best place in all our flat. I paid the fee without reservation and with a feeling of getting more than I had expected. “ Martina H.
